Erin Mei-Ling Stuart, Associate Artist
Erin Mei-Ling Stuart has been dancing with HMD since the company was formed in 1994. Her dance training began at age three, when she graced the stage as a tap-dancing duck. Erin studied ballet in her hometown of Fresno until 1992, when she ventured to San Francisco to attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Once in the Bay Area, she discovered modern dance in the classes of Joe Goode, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Ellie Klopp, Debbie Taylor, and many others. Erin, who received STEAMROLLER's coveted "Dance Whore" Red Shoes Award in 1999, has had the immense pleasure of performing with numerous Bay Area dance companies, including Stephen Pelton Dance Theater, ESP Project, Dance Elixir, Flyaway Productions, Nancy Karp + Dancers, Deborah Slater Dance Theater, POTRZEBIE, Lizz Roman & Dancers, STEAMROLLER, Pieces of E Dance Exchange, and OnSite Dance Company. In 1997, Erin began choreographing dances of her own. A few years later, she formed
EmSpace Dance, a modern dance company dedicated to creating well-crafted and emotionally resonant dances that illuminate often overlooked aspects of everyday life. In 2008, Erin won the SF Bay Guardian's GOLDIE (Guardian Outstanding Local Discovery) award for dance.
