HISTORY
HMD is a San Francisco-based dance/theatre company, established in 1993 by Co-Directors
Jenny McAllister and
Emma Lou Huckabay (now retired). HMD has been producing full-evening works in fall seasons in San Francisco since 1995, as well as performing in other various curated and co-produced shows throughout the Bay Area since the company's inception. HMD has received
critical acclaim from the SF Weekly, the Oakland Tribune, Dance Magazine, The Chronicle and the SF Bay Guardian, including numerous listings in "Critics Choice" as well as three feature presentations of the company on Inside City Limits. Critics' comments include: "...making the dance world and funnier, less ponderous place." (Ann Murphy, SF Chronicle); "...Their breadth of imagination and economy of means is exemplary; the performance by the company of seven is excellent." (Rita Feliciano, SF Bay Guardian); "Modern Dance can be obtuse stuff, but this company's vivid storytelling makes it a company to watch." (Scott Adler, San Francisco Magazine). Since the retirement of Emma Lou Huckabay in July of 2005, HMD has been under the sole Artistic Directorship of Jenny McAllister.
